Walk 93: Wheatfen Nature Reserve

I paid my first visit to Wheatfen Nature Reserve, and it did not disappoint! Located in the village of Surlingham, there is 52 hectares for you to explore and it is managed by the Ted Ellis Trust!

There are a number of pathways for you to choose from with a range of habitats to see and explore. It is a popular destination for researches and it even has its own forest school!!!

It is a great space to educate children on the natural world!

“One of the most significant and well studied wetland nature reserves in Britain”

I also saw a heron at the broad area, so look out for it when you go!

It is a 2 mile circular walk, but you can make it as short as you would like. The car park and entry is free although they do take donations! Sadly it is not dog friendly, as there is so much more wildlife located there.

There is an extra section to the walk that runs across some of the river Yare, which is open in the summer (May-September) so I will definitely be returning.

There are different checkpoints through out the walk, pick up a map at the car park and you can gain some information about the checkpoints:
