WALK 105: The Pingo Trail

One of the best walks I’ve been on in a while and my longest!!

The Pingo Trail is part of the Breks forest way project by Norfolk Country Council Trails it is 8 miles (so a long one but a GOOD one)!! ‘Pingos are shallow basins formed by glacial processes at the end of the last ice age’

There is sooooo much wildlife - butterflies, birds, we even saw a grass snake! Also there is a range of different landscapes so you could never get bored! The walk is well signposted and there are historical checkpoints throughout:

1. thetford, Watton and Swaffham railway 2️. hockham mere 3️. the trail joins the peddars way Roman road at hockham heath 4️. black rabbit Warren 5️. thompson water 6️. bronze age burial mound 7️. thompson common nature reserve 8️. site of Thompson cottage

It is a circular walk, one thing I would say is make sure you bring snacks, as we had eaten our sandwiches within the first 3 miles! There is a small car park located off of Watton road. Make sure you wear walking boots and wellies as it can get VERY muddy. There are no toilets.
